Updated over 3 weeks ago

Immediate Help — Hotlines & Text Lines (U.S.)

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — Call or text 988 for free, confidential support in a crisis. Available 24/7, for suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, or any urgent need.

  • Crisis Text Line — Text HOME to 741741 (U.S./Canada/UK/Ireland) for free, confidential help any time of day or night.

Additional Mental-Health & Support Resources

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) HelpLine — A free, nationwide support line offering emotional support, mental health information, and guidance for individuals and families. You can call 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) or text NAMI to 62640.

  • For general mental-health support, you may also browse national directories that list local providers, shelters, or support services. These include help for issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, food or housing needs, and more.

What to Do If You or Someone You Know Is in Crisis

  • Reach out immediately – Call or text one of the above hotlines, even if you’re not sure you “deserve” help.

  • Stay connected – Talk to a friend, family member, or someone you trust. You don’t have to face things alone.

  • Seek professional care – Hotlines are for immediate help. For long-term support, consider a therapist, counselor, or community mental health services (when safe and possible).

  • Use available tools – Whether it’s phone, text, chat, or online support groups — pick what works for you.
